So here's my last Saturday before the flight out t Germany. I'm finally packing and sorting out kitchen stuff to take. Two of the bikes are safely boxed and, I think, my work shirts are laundered.

Officially, I'm on vacation from my U.S. job before starting work in Germany but it kind of feels like  don't have a job. I bid farewell a week ago and left the office for the last time. The start date in Germany is January 8 so I'll have a couple of days to do the important things like finding a bed for my new apartment.

For those of you who were there and reading here, the going away party was great and I hope everyone had a good time. This is a nice segue to trying out posting pictures so here goes:

I just got back from my "information trip" which is a day of meeting with the new coworkers, 3 days of apartment hunting and a trip to Ikea. By Friday I was alone, frustratrated, and desperate to talk to another native English speaker. I rode the train ino Stuttgart and walked through the annual Christmas market. I was so fed up with strangeness I couldn't even bring myself to fight through the crowd and order lunch. I think I went back to the hotel and ordered a beer, collected my thoughts, and was ready to go again. I can only imagine what 4 months into this will be like.

I found a place to live in Feuerbach and opened a German bank account. It's starting to come together.
