Etymological history in the making

Some of you may have noticed, in passing, that "ginormous" was recently added to Webster's dictionary. I'm happy to note that the first time I heard this word was during the summer of 1982 in Blackwater, Surrey England. It was teen slang. I, however, was not quite a teen.
